An Excursion to the Old World

I am a student at the University of Toronto (Canada), going on what was once called "the Grand Tour" -- a trip around the whole of Northern Europe (and, perhaps, in the near future, Southern Europe as well). My parents and I should be spending about 3 months on our tour. I hope you will enjoy reading about my experiences, and feel free to suggest places to go (or pictures to take).

Glacial Geology in England - 3

And this, the prize picture from White Horse Hill -- a drumlin in the distance.

Here you can clearly see the long gently sloping side, and a sharp drop on the other side. (I later asked a local resident about that particularly hill, and he told me that the drop was quite a sharp cliff).

This is the characteristic structure of the drumlin, and there were quite a few that could be seen in the 20 miles or so around White Horse Hill.

Now, White Horse Hill itself is certainly not a drumlin, because it did not have the characteristic structure -- one edge (with the manger) was steep, but the other edge was undulating (and indeed reached a higher point, at which there once was a Saxon castle). So, clearly not a drumlin then.

And now on to the star -- the white horse, itself. Posted by Picasa
